sports industry veteran skip Gilbert has been named CEO of U.S. youth Soccer, joining the organization that serves 3 million players ages 5 to 19 and works with member state associations, clubs and leagues, and administrators, coaches and volunteers.
He will join the USYS office in Frisco, Texas, beginning January 10, 2020.
Gilbert, who has a background in soccer, many recently served as managing director of operations, marketing and development for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, where he oversaw Olympic testing and client services and supported marketing and developing for the organization’s TrueSport program. He has previously worked for the united states Tennis Association, USA Triathlon, USA Swimming and U.S. Soccer, and served as chairman of the national Governing Bodies Council.
“Skip brings decades of experience to U.S. youth Soccer, including indispensable insights into Camiseta Brighton & Hove Albion FC the sports business, governance and operational ecosystem,” said USYS Board Chairman Pete Zopfi. “His experience and passion for sport will help guarantee that U.S. youth soccer meets its goal of making soccer the preeminent youth sport in America. We’re confident that Skip’s leadership and diverse skill set will enhance USYS capabilities across the board while continuing to deliver benefit to all our member stakeholders.”
Gilbert played professional soccer for the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL and played on the U.S. Olympic development Team. He also trained with Sheffield United and other clubs in Holland and Hong Kong. He is a licensed soccer trainer and member of the university of Vermont and the Lawrenceville school athletic Hall of Fame.
